Professional Acupuncture Services in Cumbria

Acupuncture can be a valuable part of your physiotherapy treatment plan, especially if you're dealing with pain, tension or symptoms that haven’t improved with movement alone. I use acupuncture to support natural healing, reduce discomfort and bring the body back into balance.

What is acupuncture?

Acupuncture involves inserting very fine, sterile needles into specific points on the body to stimulate the nervous system, promote natural healing, and relieve pain. In physiotherapy, it’s often used alongside other treatments, such as manual therapy and exercise, to address musculoskeletal issues, chronic pain, and neurological conditions.

I’ve been using acupuncture in my physiotherapy practice for almost 20 years. It can be especially effective for joint and soft tissue problems, and it’s recognised by NICE (National Institute for Health and Care Excellence) as a recommended option for some chronic pain conditions.

What acupuncture can help with...

Acupuncture can be effective for conditions including:

  • Chronic pain and pain sensitisation
  • Muscle tension and myofascial trigger points
  • Joint pain and stiffness
  • Back and neck pain
  • Headaches and migraines
  • Facial pain and neuralgia
  • Sports injuries
  • Depression, anxiety and sleep issues
  • Neurological conditions, such as stroke and Parkinson’s Disease

Acupuncture isn’t a treatment on its own – it’s used as part of a wider physiotherapy plan, always based on your individual needs and preferences.

TESTIMONIALS

"Prior to consulting Sarah for physiotherapy and acupuncture I had been suffering with occipital neuralgia (migraines) post exercise or post DIY for about 3 years. Although receiving treatment for these through NHS consultant I was still experiencing episodes and was frustrated that I could seem to find the source of the problem. Sarah very quickly pinpointed the source and put me on a course of strengthening and stretching exercises to counteract a weakness in my musculature that was causing these. Coupled with targeted acupuncture in areas of muscle tightness I progressed to a drastic reduction in the frequency of headaches to almost eliminate these and a return to some of the exercises that would prompt migraines. I am still progressing with further exercises and am absolutely delighted the progress I have made. I would recommend that anyone with a similar condition consult with Sarah and take advantage of her knowledge and expertise in Physiotherapy and Acupuncture."

"I have consulted Sarah on a couple of occasions for running related injuries. Sarah has been extremely knowledgeable about causes of the injuries and as a runner herself is very well placed to advise on how much time to take off running for the injury to recover.

Some of the most successful results I have had with Sarah have been when she has used acupuncture to treat my injury. She is very experienced in this technique and always pinpoints the key areas to target with the needles resulting in (I believe) a better result than just manipulation / massage alone and I would thoroughly recommend this as a treatment option."
