I have been working as a physiotherapist for 25 years. I am chartered and HCPC (Health and Care Professions Council) registered.

I am specialised in musculoskeletal and orthopaedic physiotherapy, which means that I am mainly found treating clients with sports and soft tissue injuries, spinal and joint issues, and delivering pre and postoperative rehabilitation. However, due to a broad range of clinical experience and ongoing training over many years, I am able to assess and treat people with a variety of conditions and those with complex needs, such as long-term conditions or polytrauma.

For the last 10 years I've been working at Cockermouth Physiotherapy, (formally Liz Hunter Physiotherapy), where I can still be found working with an extremely varied and interesting client group. Helping them to get back to what they love doing and the conversations we have along the way keeps me loving what I do after so many years.

When appropriate, I am able to use acupuncture for pain relief and musculoskeletal conditions, which I have been practising for almost 20 years.

The AACP is the largest professional body for acupuncturists in the UK, supporting Chartered Physiotherapists practising medical acupuncture. They acknowledge that ‘acupuncture is one of the many skills used within physiotherapy as an integrated approach to the management of pain and inflammation and as a means of stimulating the body's own healing chemicals in order to aid recovery and enhance rehabilitation.

The body has an innate ability to self-repair. The use of acupuncture enhances these natural self-repair mechanisms to enhance recovery and improve repair timeframes. It works well in conjunction with other physiotherapy techniques'.

TESTIMONIALS

"If you could please pass on my heartfelt thanks to Sarah I’d be really grateful. Her care and patience has given me back my life following the awful arm break. I’m back to doing everything I was before the accident, pain free.

Sarah’s a real credit to the practice and I’ll never forget how she put me back together."

"I have consulted Sarah on a couple of occasions for running related injuries. Sarah has been extremely knowledgeable about causes of the injuries and as a runner herself is very well placed to advise on how much time to take off running for the injury to recover.

Some of the most successful results I have had with Sarah have been when she has used acupuncture to treat my injury. She is very experienced in this technique and always pinpoints the key areas to target with the needles resulting in (I believe) a better result than just manipulation / massage alone and I would thoroughly recommend this as a treatment option."
